02. అధశ్చోర్ధ్వం ప్రసృతాస్తస్య శాఖా గుణ ప్రవృద్దా విషయప్రవాలా: |
అధశ్చ మూలాన్యనుసంతతాని కర్మానుబన్ధీని మనుష్యలోకే ||
🌷. తాత్పర్యం : ఈ వృక్షశాఖలు ప్రకృతి త్రిగుణములచే పోషింపబడి ఊర్థ్వ, అధోముఖములుగా వ్యాపించియున్నవి. దీని చిగుళ్ళే ఇంద్రియార్థములు, అధోముఖముగను ఉన్నత ఈ వృక్షపు వ్రేళ్ళు మనుష్యలోకపు కామ్యకర్మలకు సంబంధించినవై యున్నవి.
🌷. భాష్యము : ఈ శ్లోకమునందు అశ్వత్థవృక్ష వర్ణనము మరికొంత ఒసగబడినది. సర్వదిక్కుల యందు వ్యాపించియున్న దాని శాఖల అధోభాగమున మానవులు మరియు అశ్వములు, గోవులు, శునకములు మొదలగు జంతువులు స్థితిని కలిగియున్నవి. జీవులు ఈ విధముగా అధోభాగమున నిలిచియుండగా, వృక్షపు ఊర్థ్వభాగమున దేవతలు, గంధర్వులవంటి ఉన్నతజీవులు స్థితిని కలిగియున్నారు. వృక్షము నీటిచే పోషింపబడునట్లు, ఈ సంసారవృక్షము త్రిగుణములచే పోషింపబడును.
తగినంత నీరు లేనందున కొంత భూభాగము బీడుపడుటయు, వేరొక భూభాగము పచ్చగా నుండుటయు మనకు గోచరమగునట్లు, ప్రకృతిగుణముల పరిమాణము మరియు ప్రాబల్యము ననుసరించి వివిధములైన జీవజాతులు వ్యక్తమగుచుండును. సంసారవృక్షపు చిగుళ్ళే ఇంద్రియార్థములుగా పరిగణింపబడినవి. వివిధగుణముల వృద్ది వలన వివిధ ఇంద్రియములు కలుగుచుండ, ఆ ఇంద్రియముల ద్వారా మనము వివిధ ఇంద్రియార్థముల ననుభవింతురు. ఈ విధముగా ఇంద్రియార్థములను కూడియుండెడి కర్ణములు, నాసిక, నయనాది ఇంద్రియములే సంసారవృక్షశాఖాగ్రములు.
శబ్ద, రూప, స్పర్శాది ఇంద్రియార్థములే చిగుళ్ళు. వృక్షపు ఉపమూలములే వివిధ దుఃఖములు, ఇంద్రియభోగముల ఫలములైన ఆసక్తి, అనాసక్తులు. సర్వదిక్కులా వ్యాపించియుండు ఈ ఉపమూలముల నుండియే ధర్మాధర్మములకు సంబంధించిన ప్రవృత్తులు కలుగుచున్నవి. ఈ వృక్షపు యథార్థమూలము బ్రహ్మలోకము నందుండగా, ఇతర ఉపమూలములు మర్త్యలోకము నందున్నవి. ఊర్థ్వలోకములందు పుణ్యకర్మల ఫలముల ననుభవించిన పిదప జీవుడు ఈ మర్త్యలోకమున కరుదెంచి, తిరిగి ఊర్థ్వలోకములకు ఉద్ధరింపబడుటకు తన కర్మల నారంభించును. కనుకనే ఈ మర్త్యలోకము కర్మక్షేత్రముగ పరిగణింపబడుచున్నది.

🌴 Chapter 15 - Purushothama Yoga - 02 🌴
02. adhaś cordhvaṁ prasṛtās tasya śākhā guṇa- pravṛddhā viṣaya-pravālāḥ
adhaś ca mūlāny anusantatāni karmānu bandhīni manuṣya-loke
🌷 Translation : The branches of this tree extend downward and upward, nourished by the three modes of material nature. The twigs are the objects of the senses. This tree also has roots going down, and these are bound to the fruitive actions of human society.
🌹 Purport : The description of the banyan tree is further explained here. Its branches spread in all directions. In the lower parts, there are variegated manifestations of living entities – human beings, animals, horses, cows, dogs, cats, etc.
These are situated on the lower parts of the branches, whereas on the upper parts are higher forms of living entities: the demigods, Gandharvas and many other higher species of life. As a tree is nourished by water, so this tree is nourished by the three modes of material nature.
Sometimes we find that a tract of land is barren for want of sufficient water, and sometimes a tract is very green; similarly, where particular modes of material nature are proportionately greater in quantity, the different species of life are manifested accordingly.
