*MEANING : My dear Lord, You are just like the sun, for You illuminate the darkness of the conditional life of the living entities. Because their eyes of knowledge are not open, they are sleeping eternally in that darkness without Your shelter, and therefore they are falsely engaged by the actions and reactions of their material activities, and they appear to be very fatigued.*
*PURPORT : *Bhakti-yoga is the sunlike illumination for delivering the conditioned souls, whose general condition is described here. They have no eyes to see their own interests. They do not know that the goal of life is not to increase the material necessities of existence, because the body will not exist more than a few years. The living beings are eternal, and they have their eternal need. If one engages only in caring for the necessities of the body, not caring for the eternal necessities of life, then he is part of a civilization whose advancement puts the living entities in the darkest region of ignorance. Sleeping in that darkest region, one does not get any refreshment, but, rather, gradually becomes fatigued. He invents many processes to adjust this fatigued condition, but he fails and thus remains confused. The only path for mitigating his fatigue in the struggle for existence is the path of devotional service.*

సనత్కుమారా! సర్వము నెరింగిన వాడా! బ్రహ్మపుత్రా! నీకు నమస్కార మగుగాక! నేనీ నాడు మహాత్ముడగు శంభుని అద్భుతమగు ఈ కథను వింటిని (1). ఓ పూజ్యా! తండ్రీ! లలాటనేత్రమునుండి పుట్టిన తన తేజస్సును శివుడు సముద్రములోనికి విసిరివేసిన పిదప అచట ఏమాయెను? ఆ విషయమును శీఘ్రముగా చెప్పుము (2).
సనత్కుమారుడిట్లు పలికెను -
వత్సా! నీవు గొప్ప బుద్ధిమంతుడవు. మహాద్భుతమగు శివలీలను వినుము. ఏ భక్తుడు దీనిని శ్రద్ధతో వినునో, అతడు యోగులు పొందే గతిని పొందును (3). శివుని ఫాలనేత్రమునుండి పుట్టి సముద్రములోనికి విసిరి వేయబడిన ఆ తేజస్సు అపుడు వెంటనే బాలుని రూపమును పొందెను (4). అచట గంగా సాగరసంగమమునందు, సర్వలోకములకు భయమును కలిగించు ఆ బాలుడు బిగ్గరగా నేడ్చేను (5). ఆ బాలుని రోదనద్వనిచే భూమి అనేక పర్యాయములు కంపించెను. ఆ శబ్దముచే స్వర్గసత్యలోకములలోని జనులు చెవిటివారుగా అయిరి (6). ఆ బాలుని రోదనము వలన లోకములన్నియు భయపడినవి. లోకపాలకుల మనస్సులు భయముతో నిండిపోయినవి (7). ఓ బ్రాహ్మణశ్రేష్ఠా! ఇన్ని మాటలేల? వత్సా! సర్వమును వ్యాపించిన ఆ శిశువు యొక్క రోదనధ్వనిచే స్థావరజంగమాత్మకమగు జగత్తు అంతయూ కంపించెను (8).

2. O sage, when the brilliance born of the eye in the forehead had been cast off into the briny ocean, O dear sir, what happened? Please narrate it quickly.
Sanatkumāra said:—
3. O dear one of great intellect, listen to the extremely wonderful sport of Śiva, on hearing which with faith a devotee attains the goal of Yogins.
4. The brilliance of Śiva born of the eye in the forehead and cast off into the briny sea[1] immediately assumed the form of a boy.
5. At the confluence of the river Gaṅgā and the ocean, the boy of terrific features cried loudly.
6. At the sound of the crying boy, the earth quaked frequently. The heaven and the Satyaloka became deafened at the noise.
7. All the worlds were frightened. The guardians of the quarters became agitated in the mind.
8. O dear holy one, O great brahmin, the entire world including the mobile and immobile quaked at the cries of the boy.
9. Then the distressed gods and the sages immediately sought refuge in Brahmā the grandfather and preceptor of the worlds.
10. After going there, those sages and the gods including Indra bowed to and eulogised Brahmā and spoke these words.

*It always happens that when you start new work, you are very creative, you are deeply involved, your whole being is in it. Then by and by, as you become acquainted with the territory, rather than being inventive and creative you start being repetitive. This is natural, because the more skilled you become in any work, the more repetitive you become. Skill is repetitive. So all great discoveries are made by amateurs, because a skilled person has too much at stake. If something new happens, what will happen to the old skill? The person has learned for years and now has become an expert. So experts never discover anything; they never go beyond the limit of their expertise.*
*On the one hand, they become more and more skillful, and on the other hand they become more and more dull and the work seems to be a drag. Now there is nothing new that can be a thrill to them-they already know what is going to happen, they know what they are going to do; there is no surprise in it. So here is the lesson: It is good to attain to skill, but it is not good to settle with it forever. Whenever the feeling arises in you that now the thing is looking stale, change it. Invent something, add something new, delete something old. Again be free from the pattern-that means be free from the skill-again become an amateur. It needs courage and guts, to become an amateur again, but that's how life becomes beautiful.*
