“Dattatreya Mahatmanam Varadam Bhaktavatsalam ।
Prasannarti Haram Vande Smartrugami Sanovatu ॥”

This sacred verse beautifully describes the boundless compassion of Lord Dattatreya, His immense affection for devotees, and His divine nature of protecting those who remember Him sincerely. In the Dattatreya tradition, this shloka holds great spiritual significance. Devotees chant it daily to attain peace, wisdom, and divine protection in life.

The phrase “Dattatreya Mahatmanam” reflects the universal greatness of Lord Dattatreya. The word Mahatma refers to a supreme enlightened soul who has fully realized the Absolute Truth. Lord Dattatreya is regarded as the combined incarnation of the Trimurtis—Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva. Within Him exist the powers of creation, preservation, and dissolution in perfect harmony. Therefore, He is worshipped not merely as a deity, but as the Jagadguru (Universal Guru), Yogeshwara, and Avadhuta.

The word “Varadam” signifies His nature as the bestower of boons. Scriptures say that Lord Dattatreya grants the wishes of those who pray with sincere devotion. However, the blessings He grants are not limited to material wealth or worldly comforts. He also blesses devotees with wisdom, detachment, inner peace, Guru’s grace, and guidance toward liberation. That is why Lord Dattatreya is also revered as the giver of divine knowledge.

The term “Bhaktavatsalam” highlights His immeasurable love for devotees. Just as a mother lovingly protects her child, Lord Dattatreya safeguards His devotees with even greater compassion. When a devotee surrenders wholeheartedly, the Lord appears in life as a Guru, protector, and guide, leading them on the righteous path.

“Prasannarti Haram” means “the remover of sorrow with a serene and compassionate smile.” Whenever life is filled with pain, fear, despair, ignorance, planetary afflictions, or mental distress, remembrance of Lord Dattatreya gives immense courage and inner strength. His grace brings peace to the heart. The lives of many devotees are filled with miraculous stories of protection and divine intervention, which stand as testimony to His role as the remover of suffering.

One of the most profound words in this verse is “Smartrugami,” meaning “the One who comes immediately when remembered.” According to the Dattatreya tradition, no matter where a devotee is or what situation they are in, sincere remembrance of the Lord instantly invokes His divine help. This does not always mean a physical appearance; His grace may manifest through thoughts, guidance from Gurus, divine signs, or inner inspiration.

Lord Dattatreya is considered the originator of the Avadhuta tradition. The Bhagavata Purana explains that He learned life’s greatest truths from twenty-four Gurus found in nature itself. From the Earth He learned patience, from the Air detachment, from Water purity, and from Fire brilliance and illumination. Thus, the philosophy of Dattatreya is not merely devotion—it is also a profound science of life and self-realization.

Guru devotion occupies a central place in Dattatreya worship because Lord Dattatreya is revered as the “Adi Guru,” the primordial spiritual teacher. Devotees believe that true wisdom, inner purification, and self-realization become possible only through His grace. Therefore, the sacred chant “Gurudeva Datta” is considered highly powerful and spiritually uplifting.

Ultimately, this sacred verse teaches a profound spiritual truth — God is never truly distant. He manifests in the heart of anyone who remembers Him with genuine devotion and faith. Salutations again and again to that compassionate, ever-present, devotee-loving Jagadguru, Lord Dattatreya Swami. 🙏

ఈ పవిత్రమైన శ్లోకం శ్రీ దత్తాత్రేయ స్వామివారి అపార కరుణ, భక్తులపై ఆయనకు ఉన్న వాత్సల్యం, మరియు స్మరణ మాత్రానికే ప్రత్యక్షమై రక్షించే దివ్య స్వరూపాన్ని తెలియజేస్తుంది. దత్తసంప్రదాయంలో ఈ శ్లోకానికి అత్యంత ప్రాముఖ్యత ఉంది. భక్తులు దీనిని నిత్య పారాయణంగా జపిస్తూ, తమ జీవితంలో శాంతి, జ్ఞానం, ఆధ్యాత్మిక రక్షణను పొందుతారు.

“దత్తాత్రేయం మహాత్మానం” అనే పదంలో దత్తాత్రేయుని విశ్వవ్యాప్త మహిమ ప్రతిఫలిస్తుంది. “మహాత్మా” అంటే పరబ్రహ్మ తత్వాన్ని సంపూర్ణంగా గ్రహించిన మహోన్నత ఆత్మ. శ్రీ దత్తాత్రేయ స్వామి త్రిమూర్తులైన బ్రహ్మ, విష్ణు, మహేశ్వరుల సమ్మిళిత అవతారంగా భావించబడతారు. ఆయనలో సృష్టి, స్థితి, లయ శక్తులు సమపాళ్లలో నిక్షిప్తమై ఉన్నాయి. అందువల్ల ఆయనను కేవలం ఒక దేవతగా కాకుండా, జగద్గురువుగా, యోగేశ్వరుడిగా, అవధూత స్వరూపుడిగా ఆరాధిస్తారు.

“వరదం” అనే పదం దత్తాత్రేయుని అనుగ్రహ స్వభావాన్ని తెలియజేస్తుంది. ఆయనను భక్తిశ్రద్ధలతో ప్రార్థించిన వారికి కావలసిన వరాలను ప్రసాదిస్తాడని పురాణాలు చెబుతున్నాయి. కానీ దత్తస్వామి ఇచ్చే వరం కేవలం భౌతిక సుఖసంపద మాత్రమే కాదు. జ్ఞానం, వైరాగ్యం, ఆత్మశాంతి, గురుకృప, మోక్షమార్గ దర్శనం వంటి అత్యున్నత వరాలను కూడా ఆయన అనుగ్రహిస్తాడు. అందుకే దత్తాత్రేయుని “జ్ఞానప్రదాత” అని కూడా పిలుస్తారు.

“భక్తవత్సలం” అనే పదం భక్తుల పట్ల ఆయనకున్న అమితమైన ప్రేమను సూచిస్తుంది. ఒక తల్లి తన బిడ్డను ఎంత ప్రేమగా కాపాడుతుందో, దత్తస్వామి తన భక్తులను అంతకన్నా ఎక్కువగా సంరక్షిస్తాడని దత్తభక్తుల అనుభవాలు చెబుతాయి. భక్తుడు నిజమైన శరణాగతి భావంతో ఆయనను ప్రార్థిస్తే, దత్తస్వామి అతని జీవితంలో గురువుగా, రక్షకుడిగా, మార్గదర్శిగా ప్రత్యక్షమవుతాడు.

“ప్రసన్నార్తిహరం” అంటే సంతోషకరమైన దివ్యముఖంతో భక్తుల ఆర్తిని తొలగించేవాడు అని అర్థం. మన జీవితంలో బాధలు, భయాలు, నిరాశలు, అజ్ఞానం, గ్రహబాధలు, మనోవ్యాకులతలు వచ్చినప్పుడు దత్తస్వామి స్మరణ మనసుకు అపార ధైర్యాన్ని ఇస్తుంది. ఆయన అనుగ్రహంతో అంతరంగంలో ప్రశాంతత కలుగుతుంది. అనేక దత్తభక్తుల జీవితాల్లో అద్భుత రక్షణల కథలు వినిపిస్తుంటాయి. ఇవన్నీ “ఆర్తిహర” స్వరూపానికి నిదర్శనాలు.

ఈ శ్లోకంలోని అత్యంత గొప్ప పదం “స్మర్తుగామి”. అంటే “స్మరించిన వెంటనే వచ్చేవాడు”. దత్తాత్రేయ స్వామి భక్తుడు ఎక్కడ ఉన్నా, ఎలాంటి పరిస్థితిలో ఉన్నా, హృదయపూర్వకంగా ఆయనను స్మరించిన క్షణంలోనే దివ్య సహాయం అందిస్తాడని దత్తసంప్రదాయం విశ్వసిస్తుంది. ఇది కేవలం భౌతిక ప్రత్యక్షం కాదు; ఆలోచన రూపంలో, గురువుల రూపంలో, దివ్య సంకేతాల రూపంలో, లేదా అంతరంగ ప్రేరణ రూపంలో ఆయన కరుణ పనిచేస్తుంది.

దత్తాత్రేయ స్వామివారు అవధూత సంప్రదాయానికి మూలపురుషుడు. ఆయన ప్రకృతిలోని 24 గురువుల నుండి జీవన సత్యాలను నేర్చుకున్నారని భాగవత పురాణంలో వివరించబడింది. భూమి నుండి సహనం, గాలి నుండి అసక్తి, నీటి నుండి పవిత్రత, అగ్ని నుండి ప్రకాశం వంటి గుణాలను ఆయన ఆచరణలో చూపించారు. అందువల్ల దత్తాత్రేయ తత్వం కేవలం భక్తి మాత్రమే కాదు; అది జీవనవిజ్ఞానం కూడా.

దత్తస్వామి ఆరాధనలో గురుభక్తికి అత్యంత ప్రాధాన్యం ఉంది. ఎందుకంటే దత్తాత్రేయుడు “ఆది గురువు”గా భావించబడతాడు. గురువు ద్వారా లభించే జ్ఞానం, అంతరంగ శుద్ధి, ఆత్మసాక్షాత్కారం—వంటివి దత్తాత్రేయ స్వామి అనుగ్రహం వల్లనే సాధ్యం అవుతాయని భక్తులు భావిస్తారు. అందుకే దత్తభక్తులు “గురుదేవ దత్త” అనే నామస్మరణను అత్యంత పవిత్రంగా భావిస్తారు.

ఈ శ్లోకాన్ని ప్రతిరోజూ ఉదయం లేదా సాయంత్రం భక్తిశ్రద్ధలతో జపించడం ద్వారా మనస్సుకు ప్రశాంతత, ఇంటికి దైవకృప, జీవితం లో ఆధ్యాత్మిక రక్షణ లభిస్తాయని విశ్వాసం. ముఖ్యంగా గురువారం రోజున, దత్తాత్రేయ స్వామి చిత్రపటము లేదా పాదుకల ముందు దీపారాధన చేసి ఈ శ్లోకాన్ని 11 లేదా 21 సార్లు జపిస్తే విశేష ఫలితం కలుగుతుందని దత్తసంప్రదాయంలో చెబుతారు.

చివరగా, ఈ శ్లోకం మనకు ఒక గొప్ప ఆధ్యాత్మిక సత్యాన్ని తెలియజేస్తుంది — భగవంతుడు దూరంలో ఉండడు; నిజమైన భక్తి, విశ్వాసంతో స్మరించిన హృదయంలోనే ఆయన ప్రత్యక్షమవుతాడు. అలాంటి స్మర్తుగామి, భక్తవత్సలుడు, జగద్గురు శ్రీ దత్తాత్రేయ స్వామివారికి శతకోటి ప్రణామాలు. 🙏

దత్తాత్రేయని జన్మదినాన్ని మార్గశిర పౌర్ణమి రోజున దత్త జయంతిగా జరుపుకుంటారు. ఇది పవిత్రమైన రోజుగా పరిగణించబడుతోంది. అత్రి మహాముని, మహా పతివ్రత అనసూయల సంతానమే దత్తాత్రేయుడు. ఈయన త్రిమూర్తులు అంటే బ్రహ్మ, విష్ణు, పరమేశ్వరుల అంశలతో జన్మించిన అవతారమూర్తి. అందునా దత్తాత్రేయుడు విష్ణువు అంశతో, చంద్రుడు బ్రహ్మ అంశతో, దుర్వాసుడు శివుని అంశతో జన్మించారని పురాణ కథనం.

దత్త జయంతి రోజున తెల్లవారు జామునే భక్తులు నదీస్నానం లేదా ఏటి స్నానం చేస్తారు. దత్తత్రేయునికి షోడశోపచారాలతో పూజ చేస్తారు. జప ధ్యానాలకు ఈ రోజు ప్రాముఖ్యం ఇస్తారు. దత్తాత్రేయుని యోగమార్గం అవలంబిస్తామని సంకల్పించుకుంటారు. దత్త చరిత్ర, గురు చరిత్ర, అవధూత గీత, జీవన్ముక్త గీత, శ్రీపాదవల్లభ చరిత్ర, నృసింహ సరస్వతి చరిత్ర, శ్రీదత్త దర్శనం వంటివి పారాయణ చేస్తారు. దత్తుని విశిష్టతను స్మరించుకుంటారు. ఈ రోజు ఉపవాసం ఉండడం కూడా ఆనవాయితీనే. సాయం వేళలో భజనలు చేస్తారు. మహబూబ్ నగర్ జిల్లాలోని కురుపురం, తూర్పుగోదావరి జిల్లాలోని పిఠాపురం శ్రీపాద వల్లభ అవతారానికి సంబంధించిన ప్రదేశాలు. అవధూత దత్త పీఠం వారి ఆధ్వర్యంలో కూడా కొన్ని దత్తాత్రేయ ఆలయాలు ఉన్నాయి వాటిలో కూడా ప్రత్యేక పూజలు జరుగుతాయి.


🍀 కోరల పౌర్ణమి విశిష్టత 🍀

హిందూ పురాణాల ప్రకారం, కార్తీక పౌర్ణమి నుంచి మార్గశిర పౌర్ణమి వరకు యమధర్మ రాజు తన కోరలు తెరుచుకొని ఉంటాడట! దీని అర్థం- ఈ సమయంలో యముడు భూలోకంలోని భక్తులపై కరుణ చూపుతాడని, వారి కర్మ ఫలాలను పక్కకు నెట్టి, సకల వ్యాధులు, అనారోగ్య సమస్యలను తన కోరల శక్తితో తొలగిస్తాడని ప్రగాఢ నమ్మకం. ఈ అపమృత్యు భయాన్ని తొలగించినందుకు కృతజ్ఞతగా మార్గశిర పౌర్ణమి రోజున యమధర్మరాజును ప్రత్యేకంగా పూజిస్తారు.

కోరల పౌర్ణమి రోజున ఆచరించాల్సిన అత్యంత విశేషమైన ఆచారం ఒకటుంది. ఆ రోజున మినప రొట్టెలు (కుడుములు) తయారుచేసి, ఆ నైవేద్యాన్ని తల్లి కోరలమ్మకు సమర్పిస్తారు. ఆ తర్వాత, ఆ రొట్టెలో నుంచి ఒక చిన్న ముక్కను కొరికి, శునకాలకు వేస్తారు.శునకం సాక్షాత్తు కాలభైరవుడి వాహనం. యమధర్మరాజుకు అత్యంత ప్రీతిపాత్రమైనది. అందుకే, శునకానికి నైవేద్యం పెట్టడం ద్వారా కాలభైరవుడి అనుగ్రహం లభించి, సమస్త దరిద్రాలు, దోషాలు నివారించ బడతాయి అని అంటారు.
