🌹 The Glory of Apara Ekadashi – The Sacred Vow That Destroys Endless Sins 🌹

In the Hindu Sanatana Dharma, Ekadashi tithis hold an extremely sacred and significant place. While every Ekadashi possesses a unique spiritual power, the “Apara Ekadashi” observed during the Krishna Paksha of the Jyeshtha month is considered especially glorious according to the Puranas. The word “Apara” means “limitless,” “infinite,” and “immeasurable.” It is believed that fasting, chanting, meditation, and worship of Lord Vishnu on this day grant immense spiritual merit. The Puranas explain that even the gravest sins committed by a person are reduced and purified through the power of this sacred vratam.
Apara Ekadashi is prominently mentioned in the Brahmanda Purana and Bhavishyottara Purana. According to the scriptures, Sage Vasishta explained the greatness of this vratam to King Mahijit. Those who behaved unrighteously in wars, gave false testimony, insulted their gurus, neglected charity and righteous duties, or ignored sacred spiritual practices — all such people can attain liberation from sins by sincerely observing this Ekadashi with devotion. A disciple who, after receiving knowledge from the Guru, insults or disrespects the Guru accumulates grave sins. Yet, Lord Krishna once explained to Dharmaraja that even such a sinner can become freed from sins and attain the supreme spiritual destination through the sincere observance of the Apara Ekadashi vratam.
There is also a profound spiritual story associated with this Ekadashi. Once, there lived a righteous king named Mahidhwaja. His younger brother Vajradhwaja, consumed by jealousy, murdered him and secretly buried his body in a forest. Due to his unjust death, Mahidhwaja’s soul wandered as a restless spirit, suffering greatly. At that time, Sage Dhaumya, through his divine vision, perceived the suffering of the spirit and dedicated the spiritual merit of the Apara Ekadashi vratam to him. Through the power of this sacred observance, Mahidhwaja was liberated from the ghostly state and attained the divine realms. This story beautifully illustrates the immense power of Apara Ekadashi in removing sins and granting spiritual liberation.
On the day of Apara Ekadashi, devotees observe fasting and worship Lord Vishnu with deep devotion. Reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama, reading the Bhagavad Gita, and chanting “Om Namo Narayanaya” are considered highly auspicious. The Puranas state that those who remain awake throughout the night immersed in the remembrance of Lord Hari receive the merit equivalent to performing many great yajnas. Charity, Annadanam (offering food), service to cows, and Tulasi worship performed on this day are believed to bestow manifold spiritual blessings.
The scriptures glorify the results of observing Apara Ekadashi in extraordinary terms. It is said that devotees who sincerely observe this vratam receive the spiritual merit equal to bathing in the sacred Ganga, undertaking a pilgrimage to Kashi, and bathing in the holy Pushkara Tirtha. Furthermore, those who practice this vratam with devotion, humility, truthfulness, and sincerity are blessed with the grace of Lord Hari, bringing peace, prosperity, and spiritual awakening into their lives.
Apara Ekadashi is not merely a day of fasting; it is a sacred path toward inner purification, removal of sins, and divine contemplation. It serves as a spiritual opportunity to purify one’s thoughts, words, and actions. Sanatana Dharma teaches that those who observe this vratam with selfless devotion and pure faith receive the infinite grace and blessings of Lord Vishnu.

హిందూ సనాతన ధర్మంలో ఏకాదశి తిథులకు అత్యంత విశిష్ట స్థానం ఉంది. ప్రతి ఏకాదశి ఒక ప్రత్యేక ఆధ్యాత్మిక శక్తిని కలిగి ఉండగా, జ్యేష్ఠ మాస కృష్ణ పక్షంలో వచ్చే “అపర ఏకాదశి” అత్యంత మహిమాన్వితమైనదిగా పురాణాలు పేర్కొంటాయి. “అపర” అనే పదానికి “అపారం”, “అనంతం”, “అపరిమితం” అనే అర్థాలు ఉన్నాయి. ఈ రోజు చేసే ఉపవాసం, జపం, ధ్యానం, విష్ణు ఆరాధన వలన అపారమైన పుణ్యం లభిస్తుందని విశ్వాసం. ముఖ్యంగా మనిషి చేసిన మహాపాపాలు సైతం ఈ వ్రత ప్రభావంతో క్షీణిస్తాయని పురాణాలలో వివరించబడింది.
అపర ఏకాదశి గురించి ప్రధానంగా బ్రహ్మాండ పురాణం మరియు భవిష్యోత్తర పురాణం లలో విశేషంగా ప్రస్తావించబడింది. ఈ వ్రత మహిమను మహర్షి వశిష్ఠుడు రాజు మహిజిత్తుకు వివరించినట్లు కథనం చెబుతుంది. యుద్ధాలలో అధర్మంగా ప్రవర్తించినవారు, అబద్ధ సాక్ష్యాలు చెప్పినవారు, గురువులను అవమానించినవారు, దాన ధర్మాలను విస్మరించినవారు, పవిత్ర కర్మలను నిర్లక్ష్యం చేసినవారు – వీరందరూ ఈ ఏకాదశి వ్రతాన్ని భక్తితో ఆచరిస్తే పాప విముక్తి పొందుతారని పురాణాలు వెల్లడించాయి. గురువు నుండి జ్ఞానాన్ని పొందిన తరువాత గురుదూషణను చేసే శిష్యుడు పాపాన్ని మూట కట్టుకుంటాడు. అంతటి పాపియైనా కూడ అపర ఏకాదశి వ్రత పాలన ద్వారా పాపవిముక్తుడై పరమగతిని పొందగలుగుతాడని శ్రీకృష్ణుడు ధర్మరాజుకు ఒక సందర్భంలో వివరించాడు.
ఈ ఏకాదశి వెనుక ఒక ఆధ్యాత్మిక కథ కూడా ఉంది. ఒకసారి మహిధ్వజుడు అనే ధర్మపరుడైన రాజు ఉండేవాడు. అతని తమ్ముడు వజ్రధ్వజుడు అసూయతో అతనిని హత్య చేసి అడవిలో పాతిపెట్టాడు. అన్యాయ మరణం కారణంగా మహిధ్వజుని ఆత్మ ప్రేతరూపంలో తిరుగుతూ తీవ్ర వేదన అనుభవించింది. ఆ సమయంలో ధౌమ్య మహర్షి తన దివ్యదృష్టితో ఆ ఆత్మ బాధను గ్రహించి, అపర ఏకాదశి వ్రత పుణ్యాన్ని ఆ ప్రేతాత్మకు సమర్పించాడు. ఆ వ్రత ప్రభావంతో మహిధ్వజుడు ప్రేతయోని నుండి విముక్తి పొంది దివ్య లోకాలకు చేరుకున్నాడని పురాణ కథనం చెబుతుంది. ఈ కథ ద్వారా అపర ఏకాదశి పాప పరిహార శక్తి ఎంత గొప్పదో అర్థమవుతుంది.
అపర ఏకాదశి రోజున భక్తులు ఉపవాసం పాటిస్తూ శ్రీమహావిష్ణువును ఆరాధిస్తారు. విష్ణు సహస్రనామ పారాయణం, గీతా పఠనం, “ఓం నమో నారాయణాయ” జపం చేయడం ఎంతో శుభప్రదంగా భావిస్తారు. రాత్రంతా జాగరణ చేసి హరి నామ స్మరణలో గడిపితే అనేక యజ్ఞాలు చేసిన ఫలితం లభిస్తుందని పురాణాలు పేర్కొంటాయి. ముఖ్యంగా ఈ రోజు చేసిన దానం, అన్నదానం, గోసేవ, తులసి పూజ అనేక రెట్లు పుణ్యాన్ని ఇస్తాయని విశ్వాసం.
పురాణాలలో అపర ఏకాదశి వ్రత ఫలితాన్ని ఎంతో గొప్పగా వర్ణించారు. ఈ వ్రతాన్ని ఆచరించినవారికి గంగాస్నానం చేసిన ఫలితం, కాశీ యాత్ర చేసిన పుణ్యం, పుష్కర తీర్థ స్నానం చేసిన మహిమ సమానంగా లభిస్తుందని చెప్పబడింది. అంతేకాక భక్తి, వినయం, సత్యనిష్ఠతో ఈ వ్రతాన్ని ఆచరించినవారికి శ్రీహరి కృప లభించి జీవితంలో శాంతి, ఐశ్వర్యం, ఆధ్యాత్మిక చైతన్యం పెరుగుతాయని విశ్వాసం.
అపర ఏకాదశి మనిషికి కేవలం ఉపవాసం మాత్రమే కాదు; అది ఆత్మ పరిశుద్ధికి, పాప పరిహారానికి, దైవ చింతనకు ఒక పవిత్ర మార్గం. మన ఆలోచనలు, మాటలు, కర్మలు పవిత్రంగా మారేందుకు ఈ ఏకాదశి ఒక ఆధ్యాత్మిక అవకాశంగా భావించబడుతుంది. భక్తి మరియు నిష్కామ భావంతో ఈ వ్రతాన్ని ఆచరిస్తే శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు అనంత కృప ప్రసాదిస్తాడని సనాతన ధర్మం తెలియజేస్తోంది.
