*26. vakṣo 'dhivāsam ṛṣabhasya mahā-vibhūteḥ puṁsāṁ mano-nayana-nirvṛtim ādadhānam*
*kaṇṭhaṁ ca kaustubha-maṇer adhibhūṣaṇārthaṁ kuryān manasy akhila-loka-namaskṛtasya*
*MEANING : The yogī should then meditate on the chest of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the abode of goddess Mahā-Lakṣmī. The Lord's chest is the source of all transcendental pleasure for the mind and full satisfaction for the eyes. The yogī should then imprint on his mind the neck of the Personality of Godhead, who is adored by the entire universe. The neck of the Lord serves to enhance the beauty of the Kaustubha gem, which hangs on His chest.*
*PURPORT : In the Upaniṣads it is said that the various energies of the Lord are working to create, destroy and maintain. These inconceivable varieties of energy are stored in the bosom of the Lord. As people generally say, God is all-powerful. That prowess is represented by Mahā-Lakṣmī, the reservoir of all energies, who is situated on the bosom of the transcendental form of the Lord. The yogī who can meditate perfectly on that spot on the transcendental form of the Lord can derive many material powers, which comprise the eight perfections of the yoga system.*
*It is stated herein that the beauty of the neck of the Lord enhances the beauty of the Kaustubha gem rather than vice versa. The gem itself becomes more beautiful because it is situated on the neck of the Lord. A yogī is therefore recommended to meditate upon the Lord's neck. The Lord's transcendental form can either be meditated upon in the mind or placed in a temple in the form of a statue and decorated in such a way that everyone can contemplate it. Temple worship, therefore, is meant for persons who are not so advanced that they can meditate upon the form of the Lord. There is no difference between constantly visiting the temple and directly seeing the transcendental form of the Lord; they are of equal value.*

Mantreṇa nigadenāgre jāyate yo janārdanaḥ,
Niśabdalopaṅkrtvā sa gadāgrajaḥ itīryate.
Śrī vāsudevāvarajo gado nāmamahāyaśāḥ,
Tasmā dagre jāyata ityapi viṣṇustathocyate.

*In the form of nigada i.e., mantra He is born before everything. As śabda brahma, He originated before anything. The letter ni in nigadāgraja is dropped and it becomes Gadāgrajaḥ instead of Nigadāgrajaḥ.*
*Or since the name of Lord Krṣna's younger brother born of Vasudeva from Rohiṇi, is Gada, He is called Gadāgrajaḥ i.e., the elder born to Gada.*

*అపుడు భగవాన్‌ బ్రహ్మ చేతి యందు కొరడాను బట్టి గుర్రముల నదలించి శివుని మాటచే ఆ శ్రేష్ఠరథమును నిలబెట్టెను (10). అపుడు బ్రహ్మ శ్రేష్ఠమగు ఆ రథమునందు కూర్చున్నవాడై మనో వేగ వాయు వేగములు గల, వేదరూపములైన, ఆ రథమునకు పూర్చబడి యున్న గుర్రములను తోలెను (11). మహావీరులగు ఆ రాక్షసుల యొక్క, ఆకసము నందుండే మూడు నగరములను లక్ష్యముగా చుసుకొని బ్రహ్మ మహేశ్వరునిచే అధష్ఠింపబడిన ఆ రథమును నడుపును (12). అపుడు మంగళకరుడగు రుద్ర భగవానుడు దేవతల వైపు చూచి 'నాకు పశుపతిత్వమును కల్పించినచో, నేను రాక్షసులను సంహరించెదను' అని పలికెను (13).*
*ఓ దేవశ్రేష్ఠులారా ! దేవతలకు మరియు ఇతర జీవులకు వేర్వేరుగా పశుత్వమును కల్పించినచో, ఆ రాక్షసులు సంహరింపబడెదరు. అట్లు గానిచో, ఆ రాక్షసవీరుల సంహరింపబడరు (14).*
*సనత్కుమారుడిట్లు పలికెను -*
*ధీమంతుడు, దేవదేవుడునగు శివుని ఆ మాటను విని అందరు పశుభావమును గూర్చి శంక గలవారై దుఃఖమును పొందిరి (15). దేవదేవుడు, పార్వతీపతి యగు శంభుడు ఆ దేవతల మనోగతము నెరింగి నవ్వి వారిని ఉద్దేశించి దయతో నిట్లనెను (16).*
*శంభుడు ఇట్లు పలికెను -*
*ఓ దేవశ్రేష్ఠులారా ! మీరు పశుభావమును పొందిననూ పతనమును పొందరు. పశుభావము నుండి విముక్తిని పొందే ఉపాయమును గురించి విని, ఆ విధముగా ఆచరించుడు (17). ఎవడైతే దివ్యమగు పాశుపత వ్రతమునాచరించునో, ఆతడు పశుత్వము నుండి విముక్తిని పొదగలడు. ఇది సత్యము. నేను ప్రతిజ్ఞను చుయుచున్నాను. గమనించుడు (18). ఓ దేవశ్రేష్ఠులారా ! మీరే గాక ఇతరులైననూ నా ఈ పాశుపతవ్రతము నాచరించినచో పశుత్వము నుండి విముక్తులగుదురనుటలో సందియము లేదు (19). ఎవడైతే జీవితకాలమంతయూ, లేదా పన్నెండు సంవత్సరములు, లేక ఆరు సంవత్సరములు, లేక మూడు సంవత్సరములు శుశ్రూషను చేయునో, వానికి పశుత్వము నుండి ముక్తి కలుగును (20). ఓ దేవ శ్రేష్ఠులారా ! కావున ఈ శ్రేష్ఠమగు దివ్యవ్రతము నాచరింపుడు. మీకు నిస్సంశయముగా పశుత్వమునుండి విముక్తి కలుగును (21).*

Then Brahmā seated in the excellent chariot drove the excellent chariot with the velocity of mind and wind, at the bidding of the lord towards the three cities of the valiant Asuras. The cities were then in the sky. Lord Śiva was seated inside.
13. Then lord Śiva looked at the gods and said—“Give me the lordship of the animals. Then I shall kill the Asuras.
14. O excellent gods, the excellent Asuras can be killed only after assigning separate animalhood to the gods and others. Not otherwise.”
Sanatkumāra said:—
15. On hearing these words of the intelligent lord of the gods, they became dispirited growing suspicious of animalhood.
16. On knowing what was passing through their minds, Śiva, the lord of the gods, the consort of Pārvatī sympathised with the gods and laughingly said.
Śiva said:—
17. “O excellent gods, you will not fall even in your animalhood. Let it be heard, and let the process of release from animalhood be practised.
18. He who performs the divine rite of Pāśupata[1] will be released from animalhood. I promise this to you. Be attentive.
19. O excellent gods, there is no doubt about it that those who perform my Pāśupata rite will become liberated.
20. He who renders service perpetually or for twelve years, becomes relieved of animalhood.
21. Hence O excellent gods, perform this divine rite. You will be released from animalhood. There is no doubt about this.”

It is always desiring, and never creating the capacity to receive. A desire is futile if you don't have the capacity to receive.*
