*తాత్పర్యము : గృహస్థుడు వారాంగనల మాయలలో చిక్కుకొని, వారు ప్రదర్శించు కపట ప్రేమలలో కూరుకొని పోవును. అట్లే, శిశువుల ముద్దు ముద్దు మాటలకు వశుడైన అతని మనస్సు, ఇంద్రియములు మోహితములు అగుచుండును.*

*08. ākṣiptātmendriyaḥ strīṇām asatīnāṁ ca māyayā*
*raho racitayālāpaiḥ śiśūnāṁ kala-bhāṣiṇām*
*MEANING : He gives heart and senses to a woman, who falsely charms him with māyā. He enjoys solitary embraces and talking with her, and he is enchanted by the sweet words of the small children.*
*PURPORT : Family life within the kingdom of illusory energy, māyā, is just like a prison for the eternal living entity. In prison a prisoner is shackled by iron chains and iron bars. Similarly, a conditioned soul is shackled by the charming beauty of a woman, by her solitary embraces and talks of so-called love, and by the sweet words of his small children. Thus he forgets his real identity.*
*In this verse the words strīṇām asatīnām indicate that womanly love is just to agitate the mind of man. Actually, in the material world there is no love. Both the woman and the man are interested in their sense gratification. For sense gratification a woman creates an illusory love, and the man becomes enchanted by such false love and forgets his real duty. When there are children as the result of such a combination, the next attraction is to the sweet words of the children. The love of the woman at home and the talk of the children make one a secure prisoner, and thus he cannot leave his home. Such a person is termed, in Vedic language, a gṛhamedhī, which means "one whose center of attraction is home." Gṛhastha refers to one who lives with family, wife and children, but whose real purpose of living is to develop Kṛṣṇa consciousness. One is therefore advised to become a gṛhastha and not a gṛhamedhī. The gṛhastha's concern is to get out of the family life created by illusion and enter into real family life with Kṛṣṇa, whereas the gṛhamedhi's business is to repeatedly chain himself to so-called family life, in one life after another, and perpetually remain in the darkness of māyā.*

*Man’s life on Earth is a continuous flow of events, and no event seems to be lasting. There is always a desire to grasp and hold something else, something different from and better than what is possessed at the present. This longing appears to have no end, and it does not seem to lead one to any definite goal. There are only anxiety, vexation, craving and dissatisfaction visible everywhere. Unrest and pain are seen riding over all things in the world.*
*The drama of life is but a show of shifting scenes, and no amount of worldly satisfaction appears to save one from this ceaseless anguish which follows every failure in the achievement of one’s desired end. Youth fades like the evening flower, strength vanishes like the rent cloud, and the beauty of the body quickly gives way to the ugliness of death. All things are certain to pass away either today or tomorrow. Nothing will live. The man of now is not seen in the next moment. The pleasure-centres of the human being mock at him for his folly, and he realises that all that he enjoys is not worth the striving.*

*Body refers to all the three types of bodies. Gross body is the physical body where all the five great elements are embedded. Subtle body consists of five tanmātra-s (śabda, sparśa, rūpa, rasa and gandha or sound, touch, form, taste and smell) in conjunction with antaḥkaraṇa. Antaḥkaraṇa is very subtle in nature and consists of mind, intellect and ego. The subtlest amongst the three types of bodies is the causal body and consists of prāṇa, the subtlest and important of all. The mind has to transcend all the three types of body to realise Śiva.*
