దేవతలకు ఇష్టుడగు విష్ణువు నాతో, మరియు దేవతలతో గూడి అచటకు వెళ్లి శంకరుని చూచు కోరికతో ఆయన నివాసమునకు వెళ్లెను (49). అచట శివుడు కానరాలేదు. దేవతలతో గూడియున్న విష్ణువు ఆశ్చర్యమును పొందెను. ఆయన వినయముతో అచట నున్న శివగణములను ఇట్లు ప్రశ్నించెను (50).
విష్ణువు ఇట్లు పలికెను--
ఓ శంకర గణములారా! సర్వేశ్వరుడగు శివుడు ఎచటకు వెళ్లినాడు? దుఃఖితులమగు మాకు దయగలవారై ప్రీతితో ఈ విషయమును చెప్పుడు (51).
బ్రహ్మ ఇట్లు పలికెను--
ఆ శంకర గణములు దేవతలతో గూడియున్న లక్ష్మీపతి యొక్క ఆ మాటలను విని ప్రీతితో ఇట్లు నుడివిరి (52).
శివగణములు ఇట్లు పలికిరి-
హే విష్ణో! శివుని ప్రీతి కొరకై మేము సత్యమును పలికెదము. బ్రహ్మతో, దేవతలతో గూడి వృత్తాంతమునంతనూ వినుము (53). సర్వేశ్వరుడు, అనేక లీలాపండితుడు అగు మహాదేవుడు మమ్ములనిక్కడ ఉంచి ఆనందముతో పార్వతి ఇంటికి వెళ్లినాడు (54) ఓ లక్ష్మీపతీ! ఆ ఇంటిలోపల మహేశ్వరుడు ఏమి చేయుచున్నాడో మేము ఎరుంగము. అనేక సంవత్సరములు గడిచినవి (55).
బ్రహ్మ ఇట్లు పలికెను--
ఓ మునిశ్రేష్ఠా! వారి ఈ మాటను విని ఆ విష్ణువు నాతో, మరియు దేవతలతో కూడి మిక్కిలి విస్మితుడై శివుని ద్వారము వద్దకు వెళ్లెను (56). ఓ మునీ! నాతో దేవతలతో కలిసి దేవతలకు ఇష్టుడగా ఆ విష్ణువు అచటకు వెళ్లి బిగ్గరగా ఆర్తితో కూడిన కంఠముతో పిలిచెను (57).

51. After going there in the company of the gods and me, the favourite deity of the gods went to the excellent resort of Śiva with a desire to see Śiva.
52. Unable to see Him there, Viṣṇu and the gods became surprised. With humility he asked the Gaṇas of Śiva who were there.
Viṣṇu said:—
53. O Gaṇas of Śiva, where has Śiva, the lord of all gone? Sympathetically intimate this to us who are depressed.
Brahmā said:—
54. On hearing these words of Viṣṇu in the company of the gods, the Gaṇas of Śiva lovingly replied to Viṣṇu.
The Gaṇas of Śiva said:—
55. O Viṣṇu, please listen along with Brahmā and the gods, we shall tell you the truth and the details out of love for Śiva.
56. Śiva, the lord of all, had gone into the apartment: of Pārvatī after stationing us here with love. He is an expert in indulging in divine sports.
57. O lord of Lakṣmī, many years have gone by. We do not know what Śiva, the great lord, is doing within her apartment.

నారదుడు పలికెను:
అన్ని కోరికలను తీర్చు అగ్నికార్యమును చెప్పెదను. ఇరవైనాలుగు అంగుళముల చతురస్ర క్షేత్రమును సూత్రముతో కొలచి సమముగా అంతటను సమముగా త్రవ్వవలెను. ఆ విధముగా త్రవ్వినదానికి రెండంగుళములు విడచి మేఖలలు (ఒడ్డాణము వంటి కట్లు) చేయవలెను. సత్త్వము మొదలగు పేర్లుగల ఆ మేఖలలు పూర్వాభిముఖములు గాను, పండ్రెండు అంగుళములు ఎత్తు కలవిగా ఉండవలెను. ఒకటి ఎనిమిది అంగుళముల విస్తారము కలది, రెండవది రెండు అంగుళములు విస్తారము కలది, మూడవది నాలగు అంగుళముల విస్తారము కలది అయి ఉండవలెను.
పది అంగుళముల రమ్యమైన యోని ముందు వైపు వరుసగా ఆరు-నాలుగు-రెండు అంగుళములు ఎత్తు ఉండవలెను. పడమట నున్న దానిని క్రమముగా లోతుగా నుండు నట్లు చేయవలెను. రావి ఆకు ఆకారములో నున్న దానిని కొద్దిగా కుండములోనికి చేర్చి నిర్మింపవలెను. దాని నాళము నాలుగు, ఐదు, పది అంగుళాల పొడవు ఉండవలెను. ఆ యోనియొక్క మూలము మూడు అంగుళములు, దాని అగ్రము ఆరు అంగుళములు ఉండవలెను. ఏకహస్తకుండలక్షణము ద్విహస్తకుండాదుల విషయమున రెట్టింపు అగుచుండును.
ఒక మేఖల, మూడు మేఖలలు గల వర్తులాదికుండములను గూర్చి చెప్పెదను. కుండము యొక్క అర్థమునందు సూత్రము నుంచగా కోణమునందు మిగిలిన ఆ సూత్రములోని అర్ధమును దిక్కునందుంచి త్రిప్పినచో అది వర్తుల మగును. 7
కుండార్ధమును మించిన కోణభాగార్ధమును బయట ఉత్తరభాగమున పెంచి పూర్వపశ్చిమములు వైపు బైటకు చాపి మద్యమునందు ఉంచి సూత్రము త్రిప్పినచో అర్ధచంద్రాకార మైన శుభకరమైన కుండము ఏర్పడును. పద్మాకారమైన వర్తులకుండమునందు మేఖలయందు దలము లుండును. 9

*🌻 Mode of constructing the sacrificial pit and the oblations unto fire - 1🌻*
Nārada said:
1-2. I shall describe the mode of oblation to fire, by which (one) gets all his desires fulfilled. One has to dig a square pit after having measured out with a thread, four times, twenty-four thumbs in length. Leaving a space of the breadth of two thumbs a girdle is to be made (around) the pit.
3. (One seat) of twelve thumbs in length, and eight, two and four thumbs respectively in extent (should be made) in the east.
4. (One) beautiful (seat) of ten, six and four thumbs in extent and with a mouth, two thumbs in width and tapering gradually should be made in the west.
5. It should be of the form of a leaf of the holy fig tree and should enter a little into the pit. A drain, quarter of a thumb in breadth and fifteen thumbs in length (should then be dug).
6. The base (of the drain) at the seat (will be) three thumbs and the fore part six. (This is) the characteristic (of a pit) of one cubit (hand). (The characteristic of a pit) of two cubits is twice (this).
7. I have thus described to you (about) the pit surrounded by three altars. I will now describe (about) the circular pit. A thread is to be fixed in half of the pit, the remaining portion being fixed at an intermediate point.
8-9. Having placed half the rope in the pit, if (the rope) is moved around it would be a circle. After having marked out the centre, (if one makes) a crescent-shaped pit east-west, and away from the northern direction, half (the size) of the pit and half the angular portion, it indicates auspiciousness.
