*తాత్పర్యము : విషయవాంఛల, కీర్తి, ఐశ్వర్యము మొదలగు వానిపై గల అభిలాషతో నా ప్రతిమాదులను సేవించు వాడు రాజస భక్తుడనబడును.*

*09. viṣayān abhisandhāya yaśa aiśvaryam eva vā*
*arcādāv arcayed yo māṁ pṛthag-bhāvaḥ sa rājasaḥ*
*MEANING : The worship of Deities in the temple by a separatist, with a motive for material enjoyment, fame and opulence, is devotion in the mode of passion.*
*PURPORT : The word "separatist" must be understood carefully. The Sanskrit words in this connection are bhinna-dṛk and pṛthag-bhāvaḥ. A separatist is one who sees his interest as separate from that of the Supreme Lord. Mixed devotees, or devotees in the modes of passion and ignorance, think that the interest of the Supreme Lord is supplying the orders of the devotee; the interest of such devotees is to draw from the Lord as much as possible for their sense gratification. This is the separatist mentality. Actually, pure devotion is explained in the previous chapter: the mind of the Supreme Lord and the mind of the devotee should be dovetailed. A devotee should not wish anything but to execute the desire of the Supreme. That is oneness. When the devotee has an interest or will different from the interest of the Supreme Lord, his mentality is that of a separatist. When the so-called devotee desires material enjoyment, without reference to the interest of the Supreme Lord, or he wants to become famous or opulent by utilizing the mercy or grace of the Supreme Lord, he is in the mode of passion. *

ఒక నాడు వృందాపతి, విశాల హృదయుడు, వీరుడు, సముద్రపుత్రుడునగు జలంధరుడు భార్యతో గూడి రాక్షసులందరిచే చుట్టు వారబడి యుండెను (1). ప్రేమతో నిండిన హృదయము గలవాడు, గొప్ప తేజశ్శాలి, మూర్తీభవించిన తేజోరాశి వలె నున్నవాడు అగు శుక్రుడు దిక్కుల నన్నిటినీ ప్రకాశింప చేయుచూ అచటకు విచ్చేసెను (2). గురువు వచ్చుచుండుటను గాంచిన రాక్షసులందరు వెంటనే ఆనందముతో నిండిన మనస్సు గలవారై ఆయనకు నమస్కరించిరి. సముద్రపుత్రుడు కూడా ఆదరముతో నమస్కరించెను (3). తేజోరాశియగు శుక్రుడు వారిని ఆశీర్వదించి సుందరమగు ఆసనములో కూర్చుండెను. వారు కూడా తమ తమ ఆసనములలో గూర్చుండిరి (4). నాశము లేని గొప్ప శాసనము గలవాడు, సముద్రపుత్రుడు, వీరుడు అగు జలంధరుడు అపుడు తన సభను ప్రీతితో గాంచి మిక్కిలి ప్రసన్నుడాయెను (5). సభలో దేహమునుండి నరుకబడి వేరుచేయబడిన శిరస్సుగల రామువును గాంచి రాక్షసేశ్వరుడగు జలంధరుడు వెంటనే శుక్రుని ఇట్లు ప్రశ్నించెను (6).
జలంధరురిడిట్లు పలికెను -
ప్రభూ! రాహువుయొక్క శిరస్సును ఈ విధముగా ఖండించినదెవరు? ఓ గురూ! ఆ వృత్తాంతము నంతనూ సారరూపముగా యథాతథముగా చెప్పుము (7).

ఆ జలంధరుని ఈ మాటను విని శుక్రుడు శివుని పాదపద్మములను స్మరించి వృత్తాంతమును యథార్థముగా నిట్లు చెప్పెను (8).

1. Once the son of the ocean, the noble-hearted husband of Vṛndā, was seated along with his wife and the Asuras.
2. The brilliant Bhārgava came there joyously illuminating the ten quarters as the embodied brilliance.
3. On seeing the preceptor coming, the Asuras were delighted in their minds and bowed to him. The son of the ocean too respectfully bowed to him.
4. After bestowing his benediction on them, Bhārgava, the storehouse of splendour, sat on a beautiful seat. They too resumed their seats as before.
5. Then the heroic son of the ocean, Jalandhara, saw his Assembly and was delighted to observe that his sway was unmitigated.
6. Seeing the headless Rāhu[1] seated there, the son of the ocean, the emperor of the Asuras, immediately asked Bhārgava.
Jalandhara said:—
7. O lord, by whom was this done to Rāhu? By whom was his head cut? Please tell me, O preceptor, everything in detail as it had happened.
Sanatkumāra said:—
8. On hearing the words of the ocean’s son, Bhārgava remembered the lotus-like feet of Śiva and replied exactly as it had happened.

*మరింత కృతజ్ఞతను పెంచుకోండి; అది మీ శైలిగా మారనివ్వండి. ప్రతి ఒక్కరికీ కృతజ్ఞతతో ఉండండి. కృతజ్ఞతను అర్థం చేసుకుంటే, సానుకూలంగా జరిగిన పనులకు కృతజ్ఞతతో ఉంటారు. అలాగే జరగవల్సిన పనులు జరగకపోయినా కృతజ్ఞతతో ఉంటారు. ఎవరైనా మీకు సహాయం చేసినందుకు మీరు కృతజ్ఞతతో ఉంటారు-ఇది ప్రారంభం మాత్రమే. ఆపై మీకు ఎవరో హాని చేయలేదని మీరు కృతజ్ఞతతో ఉండడం ప్రారంభిస్తారు-అతను చేసి ఉండవచ్చు; కానీ చేయకపోవడం అతని మంచితనం.*
*ఒకసారి మీరు కృతజ్ఞతా భావాన్ని అర్థం చేసుకుని, అది మీలో లోతుగా దిగేలా చేస్తే, మీరు ప్రతిదానికీ కృతజ్ఞతతో ఉంటారు. మీరు ఎంత కృతజ్ఞతతో ఉంటారో, అంత తక్కువ ఫిర్యాదు, గొణుగుడు చేస్తారు. ఒక్కసారి ఫిర్యాదు మాయమైతే, దుస్థితి మాయమవుతుంది. ఇది ఫిర్యాదులతో ఉనికిలో ఉంటుoది. ఇది ఫిర్యాదులతో మరియు ఫిర్యాదు చేసే మనస్సుతో ముడిపడి ఉంది. కృతజ్ఞతతో దుఃఖం అసాధ్యం. నేర్చుకోవలసిన ముఖ్యమైన రహస్యాలలో ఇది ఒకటి.*
