*సనత్కుమారుడిట్లు పలికెను - అపుడు మహాప్రభుడగు రుద్రుడు రౌద్రరూపమును దాల్చి వృషభము నధిష్ఠించి వీరులగు గణములతో గూడి చిరునవ్వుతో యుద్ధరంగమునకు వెళ్లెను (1). రుద్రుడు వచ్చుచుండటను గాంచి పూర్వము పరాజయమును పొంది యున్న గణములు సింహానాదములను చేయుచూ భయంకరాకారులై యుద్ధరంగమునకు మరలి వచ్చిరి(2). వారు మరియు ఇతరశంకరగణములు ఉత్సాహముతో వీరశబ్దములను చేయుచూ ఆయుధములన దాల్చి రాక్షసులను బాణవర్షములతో ముంచెత్తిరి (3). శివభక్తునకు భయపడి పాపములు పారిపోవు విధముగా, రాక్షసులందరు భయంకారాకారుడగు రుద్రుని చూచి పరుగులెత్తిరి (4). అపుడు యుద్ధరంగమునుండి వెనుదిరిగిన రాక్షసులను గాంచి జలంధరుడు చండీశుడగు శివునిప్తె వేలాది బాణములను ప్రయోగిస్తూ ముందునకు ఉరికెను (5).*
*నిశుంభశుంభాది ప్రముఖులగు రాక్షసవీరులు కూడ వేలసంఖ్యలో శివునిపై వేగముగా విరుచుకు పడిరి. వారు కోపముతో పెదవులను కొరుకుచుండిరి (6). అదే విధముగా వీరుడగు కాలనేమి, ఖడ్గరోముడు, బలాహకుడు, ఘస్మరుడు, ప్రచండుడు మరియు ఇతరులు కూడ శివునిపైకి వెళ్లిరి (7).*
*ఓ మునీ! శుంభుడు మొదలగు ఆ వీరులు అందరు రుద్రగణములను బాణములతో కప్పివేసి వారి అవయవములను ఛేదించిరి (8). గణసైన్యము బాణపరంపరల చీకటిచే కప్పివేయబడి యుండుటను గాంచి శివుడు ఆ బాణసమూహములను చీల్చి తన బాణములచే ఆకాశమును నింపివేసెను (9).*

anatkumāra said:—
1. Then the great lord Śiva assuming a terrible form went laughingly to the battle-field and sat on his bull, accompanied by his heroic Gaṇas.
2. On seeing Śiva coming, the Gaṇas who were formerly defeated returned to fight roaring like lions.
3. Other Gaṇas too shouted heroically and jubilantly. Well-equipped with their weapons they killed the Daityas with showers of arrows.
4. On seeing Śiva the terrible, all the Daityas fled for fear from the battle field as the sins on seeing a devotee of Siva.
5. On seeing the Daityas returning from the battle field, Jalandhara rushed at Śiva discharging thousands of arrows.
6. Thousands of leading Daityas, Niśumbha, Śumbha and others rushed at Śiva, biting their lips.
7. Similarly Kālanemi the hero, Khaḍgaromā, Balāhaka, Ghasmara, Pracaṇḍa and others rushed at Śiva.
8. O sage, the heroes Śumbha and others, covered the Gaṇas of Rudra with arrows and cut their limbs.
9. On seeing his army of Gaṇas enveloped in darkness by the volleys of arrows, Śiva split the net of their arrows and encompassed the sky with his own.
