*కరోత్యవిరతం మూఢో దురితాని దురాశయః॥*
*తాత్పర్యము : మూఢుడు తన భార్యా పుత్రుల పోషణకై చింతాగ్రస్తుడు అగుట వలన అతని అవయవములు అన్నియును శుష్కించి పోవుచుండును. మనస్తాపముతో అతడు క్రుంగి పోవుచుండును. ఐనను, దురాశ కారణముగా అతడు నిరంతరము వారి కొరకై పలు విధములగు పాపకర్మలను ఒడిగట్టుచుండును.*

*07. sandahyamāna-sarvāṅga eṣām udvahanādhinā*
*karoty avirataṁ mūḍho duritāni durāśayaḥ*
*MEANING : Although he is always burning with anxiety, such a fool always performs all kinds of mischievous activities, with a hope which is never to be fulfilled, in order to maintain his so-called family and society.*
*PURPORT : It is said that it is easier to maintain a great empire than to maintain a small family, especially in these days, when the influence of Kali-yuga is so strong that everyone is harassed and full of anxieties because of accepting the false presentation of māyā's family. The family we maintain is created by māyā; it is the perverted reflection of the family in Kṛṣṇaloka. In Kṛṣṇaloka there are also family, friends, society, father and mother; everything is there, but they are eternal. Here, as we change bodies, our family relationships also change. Sometimes we are in a family of human beings, sometimes in a family of demigods, sometimes a family of cats, or sometimes a family of dogs. Family, society and friendship are flickering, and so they are called asat. It is said that as long as we are attached to this asat, temporary, nonexisting society and family, we are always full of anxieties. The materialists do not know that the family, society and friendship here in this material world are only shadows, and thus they become attached. Naturally their hearts are always burning, but in spite of all inconvenience, they still work to maintain such false families because they have no information of the real family association with Kṛṣṇa.*

*The Vedanta does not teach that one should detest the world or isolate oneself in some world other than this. It does not proclaim that anyone should forsake his duties in life or put on a grave face or behave in any conspicuous manner. His Vedanta declares that one should not be selfish or attached to any fleeting object, that one should live in the consciousness of the loving brotherhood and unity of the Self in the universe, that the truth of existence is one and indivisible, that division or separation, hatred, enmity, quarrel and selfishness are against the nature of the Self, that the pain of birth and death is caused by desire generated by the ignorance of the Self.*

*This sūtra elucidates the means to get rid of the bondage caused by mind, as discussed in the previous sūtra. The ultimate aim of any spiritual aspirant to merge into Śiva, who can be reached only after transcending Kalā, Suddhavidyā, Īśvara, Sadāśiva and Śaktī. When Śaktī is satisfied, She takes the aspirant to Śiva. The said five principles are in the form coverings around Śiva, who is the central point or bindu. If one is desirous of reaching Śiva, he has to cross over these five coverings and during this transgression, the mind of the aspirant undergoes refinement. One cannot move on to the next stage, unless his mind undergoes significant purification process.*
