*స్వప్నము నందు భయశోకాదులకు ఎట్టి కారణము లేకున్నను స్వప్నపదార్థములను సత్యముగ భావించుటచే దుఃఖము కలుగుచుండును. అట్లే భయశోకములకును, అహంకార మమకారములకును, జననమరణాది రూపమైనట్టి జగత్తునకును, ఎటువంటి అస్తిత్వము లేకున్ననూ అజ్ఞానవశుడై విషయములను చింతించు చుండుట వలన, జీవుడు సంసార చక్రము నుండి ఎన్నడును బయట పడలేదు.*
*ఆత్మకు వాస్తవముగా దేవక్ తిర్యక్ మనుష్యాది శరీరాలు లేకున్నా ఈ ఆత్మ సంసారాన్ని విడిచి పెట్టదు. సంసారమూ ఆత్మని విడిచిపెట్టదు. నేను మనషినీ అంటే ఎంత అహంకారమో, నేను మనిషిని కాదు అన్నా అహంకారమే. నేను మంచివాడినీ అంటే ఎంత అహంకారమో, నేను చెడ్డవాడినీ అంటే అంతే అహంకారం. ఆత్మ ఏమీ కాకున్నా, ఆత్మకు ఏమీ లేకున్నా, ఎక్కడో ఉన్న విషయాలను ధ్యానం చేస్తూ ఉంటే విషయాలతో సంగం ఏర్పడుతుంది. ఎలాగంటే కలలో వచ్చే విషయాలు నిజముగా మనకే వస్తాయి అనిపిస్తాయి.*

*dhyāyato viṣayān asya svapne 'narthāgamo yathā*
*Actually a living entity is transcendental to material existence, but because of his mentality of lording it over material nature, his material existential condition does not cease, and just as in a dream, he is affected by all sorts of disadvantages.*
*The example of a dream is very appropriate. Due to different mental conditions, in dreams we are put into advantageous and disadvantageous positions. Similarly, the spirit soul has nothing to do with this material nature, but because of his mentality of lording it over, he is put into the position of conditional existence. Conditional existence is described here as dhyāyato viṣayān asya. Viṣaya means "an object of enjoyment." As long as one continues to think that he can enjoy material advantages, he is in conditioned life, but as soon as he comes to his senses, he develops the knowledge that he is not the enjoyer, for the only enjoyer is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.*

జగత్తునకు తల్లి దండ్రులగు ఆ దంపతులు వారి మాటలను విని ఆచ్చెరువునందరి. వారు లోకాచారముననుసరించుచుండిరి (13). ' ఏమి చేయవలెను ? వీరిద్దరి వివాహకార్యమును ఎట్లు నెరవేర్చవలెను?' అని ఆలోచించి వారిద్దరు ఒక అద్భుతమగు యుక్తిని పన్నిరి (14). ఆ యుక్తి ప్రకారంగా ఒకనాడు ఆ తల్లిదండ్రులు పుత్రులనిద్దరినీ పిలిచి ఇట్లు పలికిరి (15).
పార్వతీ పరమేశ్వరులిట్లు పలికిరి -
మీకిద్దరికీ సుఖమును కలిగించే నియమము నొకదానిని మేము పూర్వము ఏర్పాటు చేసితిమి. ఓ పుత్రులారా! వినుడు. మీకు ప్రీతితో సత్యమును చెప్పదము (16). మీరిద్దరు పుత్రులు సద్గుణములలో సమానులు. మీలో భేదము లేదు. కావుననే మీకిద్దరికీ సుఖమునిచ్చే పోటీని ఒక దానిని నిశ్చయించితిమి (17). మీ ఇద్దరిలో ఎవరైతే భూమినంతనీ చుట్టి ముందుగా ఇచటకు చేరునో, వానికి మాత్రమే ముందుగా శుభకరముగు వివాహము ఏర్పాటు చేయబడగలదు (18).
బ్రహ్మ ఇట్లు పలికెను -
మహాబలుడగు కుమారస్వామి వారిద్దరి ఆ మాటను విని పృథివిని చుట్టి వచ్చుట కొరకై వెంటనే మందిరము నుండి బయలు దేరెను (19). బుద్ధిమంతుడు గణేశుడు అచటనే ఉన్నవాడై తెలివి తేటలను ఉపయోగించి మనస్సులో తీవ్రముగా ఆలోచించెను (20). ఏమి చేయవలెను? ఎచటకు వెళ్లవలెను? పెద్దల ఆదేశమును ఉల్లంఘించ శక్యము కాదు. నేను రెండు మైళ్ల కంటె అధిక రూరమును పయనించ జాలను (21).
పృథివినంతనూ ఎట్లు చుట్టి రాగలను? నేను ఈ పరీక్షలో ఎట్లు సుఖముగా గెలువవలెను? గణేశుడు ఇట్లు ఆలోచించి ఏమి చేసెనో చెప్పెదను. వినుము (22). ఆతడు స్నానమును చేసి స్వయముగా తల్లిదండ్రుల దగ్గరకు వచ్చి యథోచితముగా నిట్లు పలికెను (23).

14. A wonderful expedient was devised by them after thinking about the course to be followed in the celebration of their marriage.
15. Once they called the sons to them and spoke as follows.
Śiva and Pārvatī said:—
16. O good sons, we have framed the rules conducive to your happiness. Listen lovingly. We shall tell you the truth.
17. Both of you are good sons and equal in our eyes. There is no difference. Hence a condition that is beneficial to both of you has been made.
18. The auspicious marriage will be celebrated of that boy who comes here first after going round the entire earth.
Brahmā said:—
19. On hearing their words, the powerful Kumāra started immediately from the fixed point in order to go round the earth.
20. Gaṇeśa of excellent intellect stood there itself after pondering in his mind frequently with his keen intellect.
21. “What shall be done? Where am I to go? I cannot cross the earth. At best it may be possible to go a Krośa. I cannot go beyond it.
22. What avails that happiness which is achieved after going round the earth?” Please listen to what Gaṇeśa did after thinking thus.
23. He performed the ceremonial ablution and returned, home. He then spoke to his father and mother.
