*పథి శ్వభిర్భక్ష్యమాణ ఆర్తోఽఘం స్వమనుస్మరన్॥*
*తాత్పర్యము : ఆ యమదూతలు భయపెట్టుచు తీసికొని పోవుచుండగా అతడు గుండె పగులును. శరీరము కంపించును. దారిలో అతనిని (ఆ యాతనాశరీరమును) కుక్కలు వెంటబడి కరచును. అంతట అతడు ఆర్తుడై స్థూల దేహమున తానొనర్చిన పాపములను స్మరించుకొనుచు వెళ్ళును.*
*వ్యాఖ్య : ఈ గ్రహం నుండి యమరాజ గ్రహానికి వెళుతున్నప్పుడు, యమరాజు యొక్క దూతలచే అరెస్టు చేయబడిన నేరస్థుడు చాలా కుక్కలను కలుస్తాడని, అవి ఇంద్రియ తృప్తి కోసం చేసిన అతని నేరపూరిత చర్యలను గుర్తు చేయడానికి మొరుగుతాయి మరియు కొరుకుతాయని ఈ పద్యం నుండి కనిపిస్తుంది. వ్యక్తి ఇంద్రియ తృప్తి కోసం కోపానికి గురైనప్పుడు దాదాపు అంధుడు అవుతాడు మరియు అన్ని ఇంద్రియాలను కోల్పోతాడు అని భగవద్గీతలో చెప్పబడింది. *21. tayor nirbhinna-hṛdayas tarjanair jāta-vepathuḥ*
*pathi śvabhir bhakṣyamāṇa ārto 'ghaṁ svam anusmaran*
*MEANING : While carried by the constables of Yamarāja, he is overwhelmed and trembles in their hands. While passing on the road he is bitten by dogs, and he can remember the sinful activities of his life. He is thus terribly distressed.*
*PURPORT : It appears from this verse that while passing from this planet to the planet of Yamarāja, the culprit arrested by Yamarāja's constables meets many dogs, which bark and bite just to remind him of his criminal activities of sense gratification. It is said in Bhagavad-gītā that one becomes almost blind and is bereft of all sense when he is infuriated by the desire for sense gratification. He forgets everything. Kāmais tais tair hṛta jñānāḥ (BG 7.20). One is bereft of all intelligence when he is too attracted by sense gratification, and he forgets that he has to suffer the consequences also. Here the chance for recounting his activities of sense gratification is given by the dogs engaged by Yamarāja. While we live in the gross body, such activities of sense gratification are encouraged even by modern government regulations. In every state all over the world, such activities are encouraged by the government in the form of birth control. Women are supplied pills, and they are allowed to go to a clinical laboratory to get assistance for abortions. This is going on as a result of sense gratification.*

*🌻 7. What is Society, If Not All of Us Put Together? 🌻*
*Where can we run away in this world? Wherever we go, we will still be in human society. Society has its own peculiar notions of etiquette. These norms may be fair, or they may be unfair, but that is a different matter. These norms exist, and we cannot escape them. We find it difficult to adjust ourselves to these laws for a long time. The individual ideal rebels against the social etiquette and law. Society has its own strength, and it will keep us in line with its own force. The fight between the individual ideal and the social ideal leads to social tension, and in this case nobody can be truly happy.*
*One may wonder what this peculiar society is after all, as it is itself made up of many individuals. What is society, if not all of us put together? Why could not the exercising of the individual ideal be made possible, inasmuch as society is only all of us put together? There is no society independent of individuals, but there is another peculiar trait of the human mind which is studied in the field of group psychology. Each one of us may individually agree to one thing, but when we are all put together we may not agree with it.*

*An actor assumes many roles and he cannot become the characters that he assumes only on the stage. Thus, he conceals his real nature from the audience. Similarly, a practitioner who has attained unmanā stage carries out his routine actions devoid of emotional involvement. He knows that except Self, everything else is delusory. This can be explained in yet another way. Śiva is the actor. His real nature is concealed by Śaktī through Her spell of māyā. Śiva exhibits His actions through Śaktī, thereby concealing His True Self.*
