*తాత్పర్యము : కాలపురుషుని శాసనమునకు లోబడియే ఈ ఆకాశము ప్రాణుల శ్వాసక్రియకు అవకాశము ఇచ్చుచున్నది. మహత్తత్త్వము తనను సప్తావరణములతో కూడిన ఈ బ్రహ్మాండము రూపములో విస్తరింపజేసెను.*
*వ్యాఖ్య : ఈ విశ్వం సగం నీటితో నిండి ఉందని, దానిపై గర్భోదకశాయి విష్ణువు శయనిస్తున్నాడని వేద సాహిత్యం నుండి మనం అర్థం చేసుకోవచ్చు. అతని ఉదరం నుండి ఒక తామర పువ్వు పెరిగింది మరియు ఆ తామర పువ్వు యొక్క కాండం లోపల అన్ని విభిన్న గ్రహాలు ఉన్నాయి. ఈ విభిన్న గ్రహాలన్నీ గురుత్వాకర్షణ చట్టం లేదా మరేదైనా చట్టం కారణంగా తేలుతున్నాయని భౌతిక శాస్త్రవేత్త వివరిస్తాడు; కానీ అసలు చట్టాన్ని రూపొందించే వ్యక్తి పరమాత్మ. మనం చట్టం గురించి మాట్లాడేటప్పుడు, చట్టాన్ని రూపొందించే వ్యక్తి తప్పనిసరిగా ఉండాలని మనం అర్థం చేసుకోవాలి. భౌతిక శాస్త్రవేత్తలు ప్రకృతి నియమాలను కనుగొనగలరు, కానీ వారు చట్టకర్తను గుర్తించలేరు. శ్రీమద్-భాగవతం మరియు భగవద్గీత నుండి మనం చట్టాన్ని రూపొందించే వ్యక్తి ఎవరో తెలుసుకోవచ్చు: శాసనకర్త భగవంతుని యొక్క సర్వోన్నత వ్యక్తిత్వం.*

*MEANING : Out of fear of the Godhead the rivers flow, and the ocean never overflows. Out of fear of Him only does fire burn and does the earth, with its mountains, not sink in the water of the universe.*
*PURPORT : We can understand from the Vedic literature that this universe is half filled with water, on which Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu is lying. From His abdomen a lotus flower has grown, and within the stem of that lotus flower all the different planets exist. The material scientist explains that all these different planets are floating because of the law of gravity or some other law; but the actual lawmaker is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. When we speak of law, we must understand that there must be a lawmaker. The material scientists can discover laws of nature, but they are unable to recognize the lawmaker.*
*It is said here that the planets do not sink. Since they are floating under the order or energy of the Supreme Godhead, they do not fall down into the water which covers half the universe. All the planets are heavy, with their various mountains, seas, oceans, cities, palaces and buildings, and yet they are floating. It is understood from this passage that all the other planets that are floating in the air have oceans and mountains similar to those on this planet.*

*What stands tomorrow is Śvasthaḥ. What is not Śvasthaḥ i.e., that of which it cannot be said as 'staying tomorrow' is Aśvasthaḥ. That is, that whose existence is not determined by time as today, tomorrow being ever present without demarcation of time is aśvasthaḥ. *

*కార్యకారణ సంబంధం లేవనేత్తే ప్రశ్నలకు తత్వశాస్త్రం సమాధానం చెప్తుంది. విజ్ఞాన శాస్త్రం ప్రతి సంఘటనకు ఒక కారణం ఉంటుందని విశ్వసిస్తుంది. ఇది కాలం అనేది ఒక గీతలా ముందుకు వెళ్తుందని, కారణం తర్వాత కార్యం సంభవిస్తుందని నమ్ముతుంది. దాని వల్ల మనం కార్యం నుండి కారణం వైపు వెళ్లే ప్రయత్నం చేస్తే మనకు అర్థం కాకుండా గందరగోళానికి గురవుతాము. అత్యున్నత కారణం లేదా విశ్వ కారణం అనే ప్రశ్నకు విజ్ఞాన శాస్త్రం సమాధానం చెప్పదు. విశ్వ కారణం ఎలా వ్యక్తమవుతుంది అనేది ఎప్పటికీ తెలీదు.*

*The problem of causality has raised questions that stress the need for philosophy. Science believes that every event has a cause and resorts to a kind of linear argument, thinking that to be a cause means just to be antecedent in time. Our movement from effects to causes leads us nowhere, and we find ourselves landed in a hopeless pursuit. The question of an ultimate cause cannot be answered by science. The end or purpose of action is, to it, enveloped in darkness.*
*If the order and method of events in the universe is determined, not by the way in which we are accustomed to observe cause-and-effect relation, but by the laws of a living organism directed by a unitary force, science cannot but find itself in a fool’s paradise. When there is mutual interaction among the constituents of the universe, the common sense view of causality falls to the ground. We require a reflective higher study, which is provided by philosophy, in order to come to a satisfactory conclusion regarding the true scheme of things. An enquiry into the nature of facts observed by science leads us to epistemology and metaphysics.*
