ఖడ్గం చక్రగదేషు చాపపరిఘాన్ శూలం భుశుండిం శిరః |
శంఖం సందధతీం కరైః త్రిణయనాం సర్వాంగభూషాభృతాం ||
నీలాశ్మద్యుతి మాస్యపాదదశకాం సేవే మహాకాళికాం |
యామస్తౌత్ స్వపితేహరౌ కమలజో హంతుం మధుం కైటభం ||
ఖడ్గము, చక్రము, గద, ధనుర్బాణములు, ఇనుపకట్ల గుదియ, శూలము, భుశుండి, (మానవ) శిరస్సు, శంఖము: వీటిని (పది) హస్తములలో ధరించి, మూడు కన్నులతో, ఆభరణాలతో కప్పబడిన సర్వాంగాలతో భాసించే తల్లి; శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు యోగనిద్రలో ఉన్నప్పుడు మధుకైటభులు అనే అసురులను వధించడానికి బ్రహ్మదేవునిచేత స్తుతింపబడిన దేవి; ఇంద్రనీలమణి వంటి శరీరకాంతి కలిగి, పది ముఖాలు, పది పాదాలతో విరాజిల్లే తల్లీ అయిన మహాకాళికా దేవిని నేను సేవించుచున్నాను.
అధ్యాయము 1
🌻. మధు కైటభుల వధ వర్ణనము - 1 🌻
మార్కండేయుడు తన శిష్యుడగు క్రసుష్టుకి భాగురితో పలికెను:
సూర్యపుత్రుడైన సావర్ణిని ఎనిమిదవ మనువు అంటారు. విఖ్యాతుడైన ఈ సావర్ణి యొక్క ఉత్పత్తిని సవిస్తరముగా తెలియజేస్తాను. మహామాయ యొక్క అనుగ్రహంతో ఇతడు ఎనిమిదివ మన్వంతరానికి ఏ విధంగా అధిపతి అయ్యాడో విను. (1-3)
పూర్వం, స్వారోచిష మన్వంతరంలో చైత్ర వంశీయుడైన సురథుడు అనే ఒక రాజు భూమండలం అంతటిని పరిపాలిస్తుండేవాడు. సర్వ జనులను తన సొంత బిడ్డలవలే పాలిస్తూ ఉండగా, కోలలను విధ్వంసమొనర్చిన రాజులు ఈ సురథునికి శత్రువులైయ్యారు.

ప్రబలాయుధాలు గల ఈ సురథుడు కోలా విధ్వంసులతో యుద్ధం చేసాడు. కాని వారు అల్పసంఖ్యాకులు అయినా కూడా సురథుణ్ణి ఓడించారు. అప్పుడు అతడు తన పురానికి తిరిగివచ్చి తన దేశాన్ని పాలిస్తుండుగా, ఆ ప్రబల శత్రువులు ఈ రాజపుంగవుణ్ మళ్ళీ
ఓడించారు. (6–7)
పిమ్మట తన పురంలో కూడా దుర్బలుడై ఉన్న ఈ రాజు వద్దనుండి ప్రబలులు, దుష్టులు, దురాత్ములు అయిన అతని మంత్రులు రాజకోశాగారాన్ని (బొక్కసాన్ని), సైన్యాన్ని కూడా అపహరించారు. అంతట రాజ్యాన్ని కోల్పోయిన ఈ భూపాలుడు వేటాడే మిషతో
గుఱ్ఱం ఎక్కి దట్టమైన అరణ్యానికి ఒంటరిగా వెళ్ళిపోయాడు. (8-9)
ఆ అరణ్యంలో అతడు ప్రశాంతమైన, అడవి మృగాలకు నిలయమై మునిశిష్యులతో విరాజిల్లుతున్న, బ్రాహ్మణశ్రేష్ఠుడైన మేధసుని ఆశ్రమాన్ని చూసాడు. మునీంద్రునితో సత్కరించబడి, సురథుడు ఆ ఆశ్రమంలో సంచరిస్తూ కొంతకాలం గడిపాడు. (10-11)
అప్పుడు మమత్వంచేత ఆకర్షింపబడ్డ మనస్సు ఆకర్షింపబడ్డ మనస్సు గలవాడై అతడు తలపోయసాగాడు : ఇలా (12)
'నా పూర్వుల పరిపాలనలో ఉండి ఇప్పుడు నేను కోల్పోయిన పురం దుశ్చరితులైన నా భృత్యుల చేత ధర్మమార్గంలో పాలింపబడుతున్నదో లేదో ఎరుగను.
శౌర్యశీలమై సదా మదించి ఉండే నా ప్రధానహస్తి (పట్టపుటేనుగు) నా వైరులకు చిక్కి ఇప్పుడు ఎట్టి భోగాలను పొందుతున్నదో ఎరుగను.
నాకు నిత్యానుగతులై (ఎల్లప్పుడు నా వెంటనుండి సేవిస్తూ) నా పద్ద అనుగ్రహాన్ని, ధనాన్ని, భోజనాన్ని పొందినవారు ఇప్పుడు ఇతర రాజులను సేవించడం తథ్యం. నేను అతికష్టంతో ఆర్జించిన కోశాగారం (ద్రవ్యము) అంతా దుర్వ్యయశీలురైన వారిచే నాశనం చేయబడుతుంది.”
ఎల్లప్పుడూ ఈ విషయాలను గూర్చి, అన్య విషయాలను గూర్చి చింతిస్తూ ఉన్న రాజు ఆ విప్రుని ఆశ్రమ సమీపంలో ఒక వైశ్యుణ్ణి చూసాడు. (13-17)

🌻Meditation of Mahakali : 🌻
I resort to Mahakali, who has ten faces, ten legs and holds in her hands the sword, disc, mace, arrows, bow, club, spear, missile, human head and conch, who is three-eyed, adorned with ornaments on all her limbs, and luminous like a blue jewel, and whom Brahma extolled in order to destroy Madhu and Kaitabha, when Vishnu was in (mystic) sleep.
Chapter 1
🌻 Description of Killing of Madhu and Kaidabha - 1 🌻
Markandeya said ( to his disciple Krasustuki Bhaguri):
1-3. Please hear from me about the origin of Savarni, {Savarni was so called because he was the son of Savarna, Surya's wife. He became King Suratha in the second (Svarocisa) manvantara.} son of Surya, is called the eighth Manu. Listen , while I describe in detail about his birth, how Savarni, illustrious son of Surya, became the lord of the (eighth) Manvantara {One cycle of creation is divided into fourteen manvantaras. The period ruled over by one Manu is called a Manvantara.
There are, therefore, fourteen Manus as follows: Svayambhuva, Svarocisa, Uttama, Tamasa, Raivata, Caksusa, Vaivasvata, Savarni, Daksha-savarni, Brahma-savarni, Dharma-savarni, Rudra-savarni, Deva-savarni, and Indra-savarni. } by the grace of Mahamaya {One of the names of the Divine Mother. }.
4-5. In former times there was a king named Suratha, born of the Chitra dynasty, ruling over the whole world in the period of Svarocisa. He protected his subjects duly like his own children. At that time the kings, who were the destroyers of the Kolas, became his enemies.
6-7. He, the wielder of powerful weapons, fought a battle with the destroyers of Kolas, but was defeated by them though they were a small force. Then he returned to his own city, and ruled over his won country. Then that illustrious king was attacked by those powerful enemies.
8-9. Even in his own city, the king, (now) bereft of strength, was robbed of his treasury and army by his own powerful, vicious and evil-disposed ministers. Thereafter, deprived of this sovereignty, the king left alone on horse-back for a dense forest, under the pretext of hunting.
10-11. He saw there the hermitage of Medhas- the supreme among the twice-born - inhabited by wild animals which were peaceful, and graced by the disciples of the sage. Entertained by the sage, Suratha spent some time moving about in the hermitage of the great sage.
12-16. There then overcome with attachment, he fell into the thought, 'I do not know whether the capital (which was) well guarded by my ancestors and recently deserted by me is being guarded righteously or not by my servants of evil conduct.
I do not know what enjoyments my chief elephant, heroic and always elated, and now fallen into the hands of my foes, will get.
Those who were my constant followers and received favour, riches and food from me, now certainly pay homage to other kings.
The treasure which I gathered with great care will be squandered by those constant spendthrifts, who are addicted to improper expenditures.'
17. The king was continually thinking of these and other things. Near the hermitage of the Brahamana he saw a merchant.
