కలికాలమున సాధుజనులకు ఆపదలు తరచుగ కలుగుచునే యుండును కదా! వారిపై కాలము ద్వేషము, ద్రోహము అను విషమును క్రక్కకుండుటకు కాలకంఠీ దేవి ఆరాధనము ఉపాయముగ చెప్పబడినది. గడ్డుకాలమునందు భక్తులకీ నామము సంపూర్ణమగు రక్షణ నిచ్చును. దారుకాసురుని చంపుటకు శివుడు కాళి, కాలకంఠి, కపర్దిని అను మూడు శక్తి రూపములను సృష్టించెను. ఆ ముగ్గురునూ కలసి దారుకాసురుని సంహరించిరి. ఇట్లు కాలకంఠి అవతారము శ్రీమాత దాల్చిన సందర్భము కలదు. నల్లని కంఠమును కూడ కాలకంఠ మందురు.

During the time of Kaliyuga, there are many dangers for the saints! It is said that the worship of Goddess Kalakanthi is a must to prevent the time from spreading the poisons of hatred and betrayal on them. The Name gives complete protection to the devotees in the dark times. To kill Darukasura, Lord Shiva created three Shakti forms namely Kali, Kalakanthi and Kapardini. Those three together killed Darukasura. This is an occasion when the Kaalkanthi avatar of Srimata appeared. Kalakantha means the one with a black neck.
