*బృంద ఇట్లు పలికెను - ఓ మహర్షీ! దయాసముద్రా! ఇతరుల దుఃఖమును పోగొట్టువాడా! ఈ దుష్టులు కలిగించిన ఘోర భయమునుండి నీవు నన్ను రక్షించితివి (18). ఓ దయానిధీ! నీవు అన్ని విధములుగా సమర్థుడవు ; సర్వజ్ఞుడవు. నేను నీకు ఒక విన్నపమును చేసెదును. దయతో వినుము (19). ఓ ప్రభూ! నా భర్తయగు జలంధరుడు రుద్రునితో యుద్ధమును చేయుటకు వెళ్లినాడు. ఓ గొప్ప వ్రతము గలవాడా! ఆతడు అచట యుద్ధములో ఎట్లు ఉన్నాడో నాకు చెప్పుము (20).*
*సనత్కుమారుడిట్లు పలికెను- ఆ ముని ఆమె మాటలను విని కపట మౌనమును దాల్చెను. తన స్వార్థమును సాధించే ఉపాయములలో దిట్టయగు ఆతడు దయతో పైకి చూచెను (21). వెంటనే రెండు గొప్ప కోతులు వచ్చి ఆతనికి నమస్కరించి ఎదుట నిలబడెను. అవి ఆతని కనుబొమల కదలిక ద్వారా ఈయబడిన ఆజ్ఞను స్వీకరించి ఆకసమునకు ఎగిరినవి (22). అవి అర్ధక్షణకాలము గడిచిన తరువాత మరల వచ్చి ఆతని ఎదుట నిలబడెను. ఓ మహర్షీ! అవి జలంధరుని మొండెమును, తలను, చేతులను తీసుకొని వచ్చెను (23). సముద్రపుత్రుడగు జలంధరుని ఆ శిరస్సును, మొండెమును, చేతులను గాంచి ఆమె భర్త మరణముచే దుఃఖితురాలై మూర్ఛిల్లి నేలపై కూలబడెను (24). బృంద ఇట్లు పలికెను- ఓ ప్రభూ! పూర్వము నీవు సుఖకరమగు సల్లాపముతో నాకు వినోదమును కలిగించెడివాడవు. నిర్దోషిని, ప్రియురాలను అగు నాతో నీవు ఇపుడు ఏల మాటలాడుట లేదు? (25) దేవతలను, గంధర్వులను, విష్ణువును కూడ జయించిన, త్రిలోకవిజేతయగు ఆ జలంధరుడు ఈ నాడు ఒక తాపసిచే ఎట్లు సంహరింపబడినవాడు? (26).*

20. O lord, Jalandhara my husband has gone to fight Śiva. O holy one of good rites, how does he fare in the war? Please tell me.”
Sanatkumāra said:—
21. On hearing her words, the sage feigned a deceptive silence. Fully aware of the means of achieving his selfish ends he looked up sympathetically.
22. In the meantime two lordly monkeys came there and stood bowing down in front of him. At a significant gesture from his eyebrows, the monkeys rose into the sky again.
23. O great sage, within a trice, they came back taking with them his head, body and limbs and stood in front of the sage.
24. On seeing the head, body and limbs of her husband, Vṛndā fell unconscious, extremely pained at the misery of her lord.
Vṛndā said:—
25. “O lord, formerly you used to humour me with pleasant chats. How is it that you do not speak to me now, to your pious beloved?
26. How is it that you, by whom all the gods including the Gandharvas and Viṣṇu had been defeated, you who had conquered the three worlds, have now been killed by a poor sage?

*🕉 It is very dificult to be religious, because you have to be both the experimenter and the experimented upon, both the scientist and the experiment. There is no separation inside. You are playing a monodrama. 🕉*
*In an ordinary drama there are many actors, and the roles are divided. In a monodrama you are alone. All the roles have to be played by you. A Zen monk used to call out loudly every morning, "Bokuju, where are you?" That was his own name. And he would answer, "Yes, sir? I am here." Then he would say, "Bokuju, remember, another day is given. Be aware and alert and don't be foolish!" He would then say, "Yes, sir, I will try my best." And there was nobody else there! His disciples started thinking he had gone mad. But he was only playing a monodrama. And that's the inner situation.*
*You are the talker, you are the listener, you are the commander, and you are the commanded. It is difficult, because roles tend to get mixed, to overlap. It is very easy when somebody else is the led and you are the leader. If the roles ,are divided, things are clear-cut. Nothing overlaps; you have to finish your role, she has to finish hers. It is easy; the situation is arbitrary. When you play both roles, the situation is natural, not arbitrary, and of course it is more complicated. But you will learn, by and by.*
