*తాత్పర్యము : కాలము యొక్క ఆజ్ఞకు లోబడి ఈ ఆకాశము ప్రాణులకు స్థానము నొసగుచున్నది. అటులనే, మహత్తత్త్వము కాలమునకు వశవర్తియై అహంకార రూపమైన తన శరీరమును ఏడు ఆవరణలతో కూడిన బ్రహ్మాండము రూపములో విస్తరించు చున్నది.*
*వ్యాఖ్య : ఆకాశము వాయువుకి అవకాశం ఇస్తోంది. (మనము వదిలే గాలి వెళ్ళేది ఆకాశములోకి. అదే ఆకాశము ఆ గాలి వెళ్ళడానికి చోటివ్వకపోతే ?. కానీ కాలనికి భయపడి చోటు ఇస్తున్నది.) . ఆకాశము పీల్చే వారికి దారిని ఇస్తోంది. మహత్ తత్వమూ పంచభూతములూ అన్ని కలిసి బ్రహ్మాండము అదే రూపములో ఉన్నదంటే, ఎవరి వల్ల? మనకు ఉన్న ఇన్ని గోళాలకు ఆధారం ఏమిటి? గ్రహాల ఆకర్షణ శక్తి ఉండడానికి ఆధారం ఏమిటి? ఇవి అన్నీ కాలం వలననే. ఏడు ఆవరణలతో ఉన్న బ్రహ్మాండం తన దేహాన్ని విస్తరింపచేస్తున్నా, తగ్గించుకున్నా, అది కాలము వలననే.*

*lokaṁ sva-dehaṁ tanute mahān saptabhir āvṛtam*
*MEANING : Subject to the control of Godhead, the sky allows outer space to accommodate all the various planets, which hold innumerable living entities. The total universal body expands with its seven coverings under His supreme control.*
*PURPORT : It is understood from this verse that all the planets in outer space are floating, and they all hold living entities. The word śvasatām means "those who breathe," or the living entities. In order to accommodate them, there are innumerable planets. Every planet is a residence for innumerable living entities, and the necessary space is provided in the sky by the supreme order of the Lord. It is also stated here that the total universal body is increasing. It is covered by seven layers, and as there are five elements within the universe, so the total elements, in layers, cover the outside of the universal body. The first layer is of earth, and it is ten times greater in size than the space within the universe; the second layer is water, and that is ten times greater than the earthly layer; the third covering is fire, which is ten times greater than the water covering. In this way each layer is ten times greater than the previous one.*

*విరోధి అయిన చాణూరుడు కృష్ణునకు లోబడినప్పటికిని, భయపడక మహాభయంకరమైన పిడికిలితో వెన్నుని రొమ్మును పొడిచినాడు. పూలదండచే కొట్టబడిన ఏనుగు చందముగా ఆ పోటును లెక్క చేయక శ్రీహరి యుద్ధమందు విజృంభించి పరాక్రమము చూపినాడు. పరాక్రమవంతుడును, యుద్ధమందు గంభీరుడును, భీతిగొలిపెడి వాడును, దొడ్డదేహము కలవాడును, వీరుడునుయగు చాణూరుడిని కృష్ణుడు చొచ్చుకొనిపోయి కర్కశముగా వాని చేతులు పట్టుకొని గిరగిర త్రిప్పి నేలపై కొట్టినాడు. ఆ విధముగా అచ్యుతునిచేత గిర గిర త్రిప్పబడిన చాణూరుడు మిక్కిలిగ నలిగినవాడై నోటినుంచి నెత్తురు కారగా పుడమిమీదబడి ప్రాణములు విడిచినాడు. అతని ప్రాణములు వీడినవెంటనె కంసుని ప్రాణము కలబారినది.*

*According to Swami Sivananda, philosophy is not merely a logical study of the conclusions of science or a synthesis of the different sciences. Its methods are different from those of science, though, for purposes of higher reflection and contemplation, it would accept the research of science and its accumulated material. Swami Sivananda, however, is not inclined to give too much importance to science, though, for purposes of instructing the modern man in the great truths of philosophy, he has no objection to taking illustrations from the limitations of science and from the necessity that modern science feels for accepting the existence of a reality beyond sense-perception.*
*To Swami Sivananda, the value of philosophy rests mainly in its utility in reflective analysis and meditation on the Supreme Being. Philosophy in the sense of a mere play of reason he regards as useless in one’s search for spiritual knowledge. As a necessary condition of spiritual meditations on the path of Jnana Yoga, the value of philosophy is incalculable. Knowledge conceived, nurtured and manifested by the mind remains uncontaminated with temporal matters such as bondage. The previous sūtra (3-1) said that a normal mind works on three constituents - mind, intellect and ego. In the present section, knowledge means the knowledge arising out of the mind influenced by the said three constituents.*
