The 10th Sutra of the Siva Sutras—Aviveko Maya Susuptam—explains that ignorance, or lack of discernment (aviveka), is like a deep sleep (susupti), controlled by the illusion of Maya. Just as deep sleep obscures awareness, ignorance veils our true nature as Shiva, keeping us trapped in illusion.
