కాలకంఠుడైన శివుని భార్య శ్రీమాత అని అర్థము. లోకశ్రేయస్సునకై సకలదేవతా సంఘములు, ఋషి సంఘములు చూచుచుండగ శివుడు అతి ఘోరమైన కాలకూట విషమును త్రాగి దానిని కంఠమున నిబద్ధము చేసెను. తన కుక్షిలోనికి జొరకుండ నిలిపి యుంచెను. ఇదియొక అద్భుత కార్యము. శివునికే సాధ్యమగు విషయము. అట్టి శివుని భార్య గనుక శ్రీమాత కాలకంఠి అయినది. కాలము గ్రక్కు విషమునకు హరింపబడకుండుటకు జీవులు కాలకంఠి నామమును జపించుట క్షేమము. జీవుల ఆపదలను గమనించు తల్లి ప్రార్థనను త్వరితముగ గ్రహించి అనుగ్రహించును.

Shrimata is the wife of Kalakantha ( The One with a black neck)Shiva. For the good of the world, while all the deities and sages were watching, Lord Shiva drank the worst Kalakuta poison and held it in his throat. He stopped it so that it doesn't reach His stomach. This is a miracle. Only Shiva can do that. Srimata, being His consort became Kalakanthi.To save themselves from the poisons of time, beings should chant this kalakanthi name of Srimata. A mother who observes the dangers the beings are in and quickly receives the prayer and grants blessings.
